It might not have rolled down the Holden production line, but this 2020 reprise of the GRM Bathurst 24 winning Monaros of 2002-’03 certainly is a new Holden – and what a Holden it is... How ever legitimate the last-Holden claim may be, with this new Monaro 427C the Holden Lion can exit with a mighty roar rather than a whimper. It also brings a whole new meaning to Holden’s 2003 Bathurst 24 victory slogan: Game Over. This lovely pair of ‘Orchid Metallics’ weren’t created by that method – they were in fact made in a Holden factory – but they share identical Holden DNA and are a matching pair in all respects apart from one of them being a Sandman panel van and the other a Monaro GTS four-door. These painstakingly restored orchid-hued HQs make for a very rare twin-set of Holdens.

Join the club

If you were a kid in 1960 and you loved cars, it was essential to become a member of the Nestle’s Car Club.

Catalina crash test

They say that racing improves the breed, and there's nothing like the stresses of competition on the track to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of a car - as Bob Jane discovered with his famous Mustang Catalina crash.

Hi HO: watch the Fords go by

Even today it’s still the ultimate Bathurst-bred Ford. The GTHO Phase III was the last of its line, and it was partly responsible for steering Australian touring car racing away from a stock-standard showroom formula and onto the course that would lead to today’s Supercars. Its legend was born 50 years ago on a windswept October afternoon in the NSW central tablelands.

Wet and wild: Bathurst 1974

It was the wettest Bathurst 500/1000 yet held and arguably the most exciting as Kevin Bartlett fended off the late-race challenge from Bob Forbes’ Torana L34. KB still needed a walking stick (after the leg injuries he sustained in a Formula 5000 shunt earlier in the year) to get around but in the sodden conditions there could be no safer or more skilled pair of hands to guide the John Goss McLeod Ford Falcon Hardtop to victory.

Speedway's battle of the Stangs

While road racing had its Mustang rivalries in the early 1970s, so too did speedway racing also have its battle of the Stangs.

Saturday night at the skids

In the late 1950s, just about every teenager in the western suburbs of Melbourne went to Tracey’s Speedway out at Maribyrnong. And a lot of top level Torana racing action in the 1970s would not have happened without the enthusiasm and generosity of one man, Max Aubert. Max passed away a few years ago, aged 92, but the ebullient Holden dealer left a lasting impression, both on the drivers who raced with him and also on the sport itself.

Moffat tribute raises funds for Dementia Australia

The Allan Moffat tribute sticker initiative at last year’s Adelaide 500 Supercars event has raised $27,500 for Dementia Australia.

Gallery: Adelaide Chrysler Festival 2026

Scenes from the ninth annual Adelaide Chrysler Festival over the weekend of March 20-22, put on by the Chrysler Car Club of South Australia. It was an ingenious concept, a serious attempt at offering an affordable high-performance Australian sportscar within the constraints of what Australian government regulations would allow, and it did achieve a level of sales success. For all that, it’s a car that remains surprising little-known today; more than 40 years after it broke cover at the Sydney Motor Show, the name Perentti seems to have ended up somewhat lost in the mists of time.
