It's the original 327 Chev-powered Monaro GTS model built for the 1968 Bathurst 500, but this example was never raced. This metallic blue HK model Monaro has a four-speed manual transmission and comes with a matching metallic blue tool chest and a set of Holden workshop manuals.
The car was winner of the Victorian State Title (HK, HT, HG Class) in 2013. A year later it was purchased by the vendor at the Motorclassica auction. It's been used sparingly since purchase, and been carefully and secured stored. This exceptional Monaro GTS 327 is expected to sell in the $320,000-360,000 range.
It’s not the only HK Monaro set to go under the hammer at the Shannons timed online Winter auction. There’s also a base-spec six-cylinder Holden HK Monaro 186 – the equivalent of a standard Kingswood in coupe form. What’s special about this Monaro is that it was the 471st standard Monaro built at Holden’s Pagewood, Sydney, plant in 1968, and has had just one owner since 1972. It’s a matching numbers car with two-speed Powerglide transmission, and is showing just 7,515 miles on its odometer. Offered with ’no reserve’, it is expected to sell in the $50,000-$60,000 range.
For something completely different, there’s a neatly presented HZ Kingswood wagon on offer – inside and out it gives the appearance of being a faithfully restored late-‘70s Kingswood wagon, but under the bonnet lurks a ‘00s-era 5.7-litre LS1 Chev engine. Bidding for this veritable wolf in sheep’s clothing start at $24,000.
On the blue oval side of things, there’s a Brambles Red Falcon XW GT with 351 cid Cleveland power and automatic transmission. It’s thought that the Cleveland engine was fitted as a dealer replacement engine in the early ‘70s.

It’s been well kept and always garaged, and the interior presents as original – and even includes a period-correct Pioneer eight-track stereo, a Smiths under-dash air-conditioner and a rear window venetian blind.
All early Falcon GTs are attracting large sums these days, and Shannons expects this XW to sell in the $160,000-$200,000 range.
