For the 1977-'78 touring car seasons, Colin Bond teamed up with Allan Moffat to form one of the greatest driver combinations of all time, culminating in the famous one-two Moffat Ford Dealers finish at Bathurst.

Probably because he was seen as the ‘co-driver’ in that role, we tend to forget just how big a star Bondy was in his own right.

At the time he was chosen to feature in a series of ads for Rexona anti-perspirant, along with other prominent Australian sporting personalities like Margaret Court, Peter Cook and Heather McKay. These ads featured in mainstream magazines like Family Circle and The Australian Women’s Weekly. There was also a national TV campaign.

Bondy was a good choice for a deodorant ad. While many other drivers sweated profusely in the cockpit and got all woofy under the ‘Warwick Farms’, he always looked cool, calm and collected. And his hair was always perfect.
