Alfa Romeo Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas wants to follow in the footsteps of Sir Jack Brabham, Sir Stirling Moss and Jenson Button and try his hand in an Australian touring car.

Bottas has confirmed he will take part in the Adelaide Motorsport Festival and wants to try a Supercar while he’s here. In a video message to fans, the Finn said he will drive an ex-Alan Jones and Colin Bond Alfa Romeo GTV Group A touring car (pictured, above) but wants to try our latest tin-top.

“I’ve got some good news,” Bottas said. “I’ll be at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival in Victoria Park on the 26th of March and I’ll be getting behind the wheel of some kind of Alfa Romeo, obviously, and perhaps a V8 Supercar.

“I’ve got all my gear packed and heading to Adelaide, and I look forward to seeing you there.”

F1 ace Bottas is a regular visitor to Australia and wants to try our local racing scene.

The Adelaide Motorsport Festival is a two-day event run across March 25 and 26 using a section of the Adelaide street circuit. It attracts an eclectic mix of cars, from former touring cars, sports cars and even a variety of ex-F1 machines.

Bottas has become something of an adopted Aussie, spending a large part of the F1 off-season here with his partner, Australian cyclist Tiffany Cromwell. Cromwell is a South Australian native and Bottas embraced Australian culture, including growing a mullet.

Unfortunately, it’s not clear if Bottas will get his wish and drive a Supercar, but it’s possible it could happen the following weekend for the Australian Grand Prix. It’s been a regular publicity stunt for F1 stars to sample a Supercar at Albert Park (or Sandown) during race week.
