The last factory-backed Ford Falcon to win the V8 Supercars title is available for a collector or racer to buy for the first time. Tickford Racing is selling Mark Winterbottom’s 2015 title winning FG X Falcon, having kept it in-house throughout its racing life.

While Scott McLaughlin claimed one more title for the Falcon in 2018, Winterbottom’s title has special significance as it was won with the team set-up as the Blue Oval’s official squad. Tickford Racing went through multiple names, including Ford Performance Racing and Prodrive Racing Australia, but despite enjoying factory support only one a single driver’s title.

Which is why Tickford Racing boss, Tim Edwards, says the FG X Falcon holds a special place in the team’s pantheon of cars.

“It’s probably one of the most important cars in the 20 year history of this team,” Edwards said in a video announcing the sale. “We fought for many years to win the championship. We won a couple of Bathursts but to actually win the championship was hugely important.”

The car - chassis FPR 1217 - was built in 2014 and raced by Winterbottom in that year’s championship; where he finished third. The following year he was in peak-form and raced to nine wins (and second place at Bathurst) to claim his championship crown.

After that the car went through multiple driver’s hands, including Cameron Waters, Jason Bright and Richie Stanaway in the main game, before it became the team’s Super2 entry in 2019. It was finally retired from racing duties at the end of 2021.

Since then it has had a full restoration and is back in its 2015 Pepsi Max livery and powered by the same 5.0-litre V8 engine it ran in ‘15. In addition to the car the new owner will get all relevant documentation, setup sheets from ‘15 Supercars season and Winterbottom’s race-worn ‘15 race suit.

Tickford is advertising the car for $800,000 or best offer. You can see more about the car here.
