Dick Johnson has been given the honour of hitting the track first in the new-look Ford Mustang at Mount Panorama.
The racing legend will hit the track in the seventh-generation Mustang racer that has been built to the incoming Gen3 regulations. The car has been previewed virtually, but the real car will be unveiled in the Bathurst pitlane at 12:30pm on Thursday before Johnson hits the track in the afternoon for the first demonstration run.

Aside from being a multiple champion and race winner for the blue oval brand, Dick Johnson Racing is the official homologation team for the Gen3 car so has been working on the new Mustang for the last few years.

“My team and I have been racing Fords for more than forty years, we are very proud representatives of and ambassadors for the Blue Oval,” said Johnson.

“We have been working extremely hard on making this car the best it can possibly be over the last couple of years, and to be the first person in the world to drive it after all of that work is fantastic. Any chance to drive around Mount Panorama is incredible, but to do it in Ford’s latest race car is an opportunity I simply couldn’t pass up.
“I can’t wait to drive the Mustang and see the fans across the top of the Mountain, it’s going to be very special indeed.”
Ford revealed six racing versions of the seventh-generation Mustang recently, but the Supercar will be the first of them to hit the track in public.
