Little photographic or video coverage exists of Allan Moffat and the HDT’s ’71 Macau escapades. But there is some brief film footage to be found in, of all things, a 1972 Japanese motor racing movie called Hairpin Circus. The movie’s racing scenes were filmed at the ’71 Macau meeting, and 16 minutes in Brock’s XU-1 and Moffat’s Falcon can be seen dueling it out on the opening lap of the touring car race. The footage shows the big Falcon, struggling for grip on road tyres, miss its braking point completely before slithering up the escape road, with Moffat barely managing to avoid ploughing through the haybale ‘protecting’ the photographers on the side of the track…
