The entry list for the 2024 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour has been released, and it’s top heavy with V8 muscle. No less than nine Ford Mustangs have been named in the 61-car field, making the Ford Ponycar the most popular vehicle model choice in the race.
Last year's class winning combo of Tony and Ryder Quinn and Grant Denyer head what is a seriously credentialled Mustang fleet. Supercars star Tim Slade will swap his regular PremiAir Camaro Supercars ride for a production car Mustang which he’ll share with Chad Parrish; Super2 driver Rylan Gray is teamed with production car stalwart Chris Delfsma and reigning Toyota 86 Series champ Ryan Casha, while Aaron Seton will join Jason and Ben Gomersall in their Mustang.
The nine Ponycars will meet GM opposition in Class A2 (naturally aspirated 'extreme' performance), in the form of a HSV Clubsport R8 and Chris Lillie’s HSV Camaro. Weight of numbers are with the Ford and GM muscle in the A2 class battle – the only other entries in the class are one Mercedes AMG C63 and a Lexus RC F.
With Mustangs having performed strongly in 2023 – they were top 10 contenders all day, with the Tony Quinn entry finishing seventh outright – there’s even an outside chance of one of them ending BMW’s stranglehold on the 6 Hour.
