General Motors has committed to being all-electric by 2035 but there was good news for V8 fans this week with the company committing more than $1 billion to its next-generation bent-eight.
GM announced a raft of investments in its US factories and crucially this includes US$854 million ($1.21b) on building a sixth-generation small block V8 engine. The current fifth-generation V8 debuted back in 2014 and powers the Chevrolet Corvette and Camaro as well as other models across the GM portfolio.
The money will be spent upgrading factories in Michigan, Ohio and New York that will be able to produce components for the new engine, which will be assembled at the Flint Engine Operations facility. At the same time, money will also be spent on increasing production of key components for electric powertrains, including battery packs.
