If you were into rallying during the 1990s, you would never forget this incredible Australian muscle car. Mark Taylor’s big, black ‘BP Corse Plus’ XY Falcon GT, nicknamed ‘The HOey’ by its adoring fans, spitting stones on full lock and full noise through the turns, airborne over the humps, its V8 thunder barely audible over the screams and shouts of delighted spectators. And, behind the wheel, a driver who was having as much fun as the people watching. Today, it’s an icon of a brief but brilliant era in local rallying. “I was thinking about doing the Australian Rally Championship but I realised I couldn’t afford to do it at the pointy end,” Mark Taylor says.

“So, the next best thing was to make sure I was having fun!”

Back in 1990, aside from being married to future ARC champion co-driver Coral Taylor, Mark Taylor had been around rallying for a long time in his own right. He had a fair idea of what was available within his budget, but in reality there was only one car on the short list.
