The Shadow sports and racing cars set to compete at the Adelaide Parklands on March 8-9 next year include the Can-Am AVS Shadow Mk.I Mosport, the prototype Mk.I and Shadow Mk.III, along with a 1975 Shadow DN6B Formula 5000.

The Shadow Mk.I (pictured above), commonly known as the ‘Tiny Tyre Special’, is among the most bizarre competition vehicles in the entire history of motorsport: a miniature kart-like machine with a Big Block allow Chev V8 shoehorned into the rear.

Founded in 1968 as Advanced Vehicle Systems by the enigmatic Don Nichols, Shadow Racing Cars was prominent on the world motor racing stage in the 1970s, with Australian Alan Jones scoring his first (and Shadow’s only) F1 grand prix win in a Shadow DN8 Ford-Cosworth V8.
