Peter Brock is best remembered for his performances on the racetrack - winning Bathurst a record nine times and carrying the Holden flag for decades.

But he also arguably created what became the greatest strength of the Australian car industry - special vehicles operations. The likes of Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) and Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) had roots in Brock’s success with the Holden Dealer Team (HDT) that boomed under Brock’s leadership in the 1980s.

Yes, HDT pre-dated Brock’s control, with Harry Firth effectively creating the outfit as a pseudo-work racing team in the 1960s, but it was Brock and his run of Commodore-based special editions in the ‘80s that really took the company to its peak.
