He was never a professional racer, he never contested an Australian Touring Car Championship as a full-timer, and in fact was hardly ever seen in the ATCC. And yet as an owner/driver in the Group C era, Bob Forbes forged a pretty handy touring car racing record.
Forbes may not have been a star of the stature of a Peter Brock or Allan Moffat, but he was Kevin Bartlett‘s co-driver of choice when the open-wheeler star switched to touring cars with the Kerry Packer-backed Chevrolet Camaro. That’s a substantial seal of approval for any driver and is a good indication of the position Forbes occupies in the history of Aussie tin-top racing.
Yet that’s just Bob Forbes the driver. After hanging up his helmet Forbes would later be involved as a team owner and would be one of the key players in the process of establishing what we know today as Supercars Australia.
