Dual Bathurst victories for the one car is a feat that’s only been repeated twice – there was the Holden Racing Team's VX Commodore in 2001 and 2002 and Triple Eight Race Engineering’s ZB Commodore in 2020 and 2022.
But the HDT VH Commodore uniquely is not just the first car to win the Great Race twice, because it was also the first winning car with a three-driver crew.
Brock teamed with Larry Perkins to win in this car in 1982, but for ’83 the former 05 Brock/Perkins VH Commodore became the sister #25 car for John Harvey and Phil Brock.
When the 05 car retired early from the ’83 race with engine failure, Brock and Perkins took over the #25 car after Harvey completed the opening stint. This was allowed under the controversial cross-entering rules in place back then - ironically a rule which Perkins himself felt was unjust.
The Harvey/Peter Brock/Perkins trio went on to victory, leaving Phil Brock as a non-starter even though his car won the race.
The #05 Brock/Perkins-#25 Harvey/Brock/Perkins HDT VH Commodore SS will join the Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 Bathurst winners from 1991 and 1992 in the category featuring original winners from the history of the Great Race.
More Bathurst winners set to appear at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival will be announced in the coming weeks. In addition to V8 Supercars and Heritage touring cars, categories featuring over the course of the weekend will include F1 (with an appearance from F1 star Valtteri Bottas), sportscars and IndyCars - with more news on categories, star cars and drivers and on and off-track activations coming soon.
