The CIG Falcon XW was driven by Hans Tholstrup and Bill Ford to 11th outright, five laps down on winner Allan Moffat. This was a very innovative sponsorship for the time given the natty livery, the campaign’s launch of the Autolynx 100 MIG welder and the supply of equipment to CIG’s trade area, a forerunner to what would become the famous TAFE Smash Repair Team.

Then there’s the creative spread in CIG’s own magazine detailing the ways the company’s products were used on race weekend. For instance, the caption for photo 4, 10am Saturday October 3 reads: “The scrutineers found that this car did not have a safety strap on the tailshaft. Tony Marletta of the Sydney Branch gets right down to the job in hand to weld a new strap in position using the Autolynx 100.” On ya, Tony!

We thank Karl for sharing his find.

“I found this in an old filing cabinet that I saved from being put in the scrap bin. I wonder if the car is still around?”

Good question...
