Ford is ramping up the hype around the hotly-anticipated reveal of the new-generation Mustang, releasing an audio clip of its V8 engine and showing off a camouflaged prototype to fans in the US.
The new S650 pony car will be unveiled to the world on September 14 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Ford wanted to make it even more special, so it has created a live fan event for the reveal, known as The Stampede.
Mustang owners, fans and the media will descend on Hart Plaza in Detroit to see the covers come off.
“Mustang is the world’s best-selling sports car because there’s one for everyone - from an EcoBoost convertible to 5-liter V8 GT fastback coupe,” said Jim Farley, president and chief executive officer, Ford Motor Company. “Now it’s time for a new stampede of owners, fans and employees to welcome the next chapter in Mustang’s legacy - the seventh-generation, which will be our best yet.”

But before that happens, the brand has teased more details about the car, releasing a short audio clip on social media of its new V8 engine revving. It doesn’t give away much but for muscle car fans still in shock about Dodge’s new all-electric muscle car future it will be a welcome sound.
While Ford hasn’t revealed any official details on the new ‘Stang we do have a strong indication of what to expect. It’s likely to be based on a new platform, which is based on the basic underpinnings of the Explorer SUV but converted for rear-wheel drive use.
Under the bonnet the 5.0-litre V8 and 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine will carryover, albeit with significant upgrades to improve performance and fuel economy. There have been rumours of a hybrid or even a possible all-electric Mustang, but that’s unlikely to be shown off initially and instead may be held back for later in the lifespan of this seventh-generation model.
