Moffat raced the factory-built Porsche 934 Turbo RSR in 1980 as a quasi-works entry for the then local Porsche agent, Alan Hamilton (Hamilton himself enjoyed a distinguished racing career, and was co-driver to Colin Bond in the second Allan Moffat Falcon at Bathurst in 1977).

Moffat's victory in the Porsche in the Australian Sports Car Championship was one of his few highlights in 1980, following the withdrawal from racing of Ford. Moffat’s touring car racing plans that year were effectively in limbo, with Ford out of the picture and the controlling body of motorsport (CAMS) refusing to grant Moffat and Mazda permission to race a Mazda RX7 with peripheral-port rotary power in Group C touring car racing.

The Porsche had won the Australian Sports Car Championship in 1977 with Alan Hamilton behind the wheel before it was parked due to a change in the category’s technical requirements. It became eligible again in 1980; Moffat won the championship with six race wins from 11 starts.

Now restored in Moffat Federation Insurance red livery from 1980, the Porsche 934 Turbo RSR will be on track in the Porsche Rennsport category at the Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival on March 8 and 9.

The 2025 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival will feature various categories, including Formula 1 cars, V8 Supercars, sportscars, historic touring cars and bikes Off track there will be car displays, kids' zones, bars and food trucks, exhibitors and traders, activations and more, in a picnic in the park setting.

Tickets are on sale now with weekend tickets and single-day tickets available, in addition to tickets to the Toyota Gazoo Racing Garden and Pagani VIP Suite hospitality offerings.
