Peter Brock's racing career spanned five decades and in that time he drove some of the most iconic cars.
It wasn't easy but we've managed to narrow it down to his five best - or should we say ‘05’ best. Thanks to his huge success on the track ‘Peter Perfect’ typically enjoyed strong sponsorship and that led to great liveries. From his early days with the Holden Dealer Team through his privateer days and then back to the Holden Racing Team, there’s something from each aspect of his career on this list.
5. 1979 HDT Holden Torana

Cigarette advertising may be banned these days, but it's hard to argue the industry didn't create some of the best liveries.
The Marlboro red, white and black scheme suited the Torana A9X Brock drove in the late 1970s. It's a look that screams success and has become iconic with Brock's legacy.
It also helps that it was a hugely successful paint scheme, adorning his cars through arguably the peak of his career when he won back-to-back Bathursts in the A9X in ‘78 and ‘79 and the ‘78 Australian Touring Car Championship.
4. 1992 Mobil Holden Commodore

Some may call it plain and boring, but to us it's simple, clean and iconic.
During his years away from Holden's factory-backed teams Mobil stepped up its sponsorship of both his Holdens and his years in the BMW M3 and Ford Sierra.
By the early 90s and with the introduction of the new V8-only formula, Brock's '92 livery is a great example of an uncomplicated livery that made it stand out on the track and become stuck in the brain of anyone who watched it.
3. 1995 HRT Holden Commodore

Brock's influence on the Holden Racing Team was immediate. He helped secure the team's sponsorship future by bringing Mobil backing.
This meant HRT's classic white and black livery got a blue tinge in '95. It made for a stylish and memorable livery.
For those who fondly remember racing in the late '80s and early '90s the black and white HRT liveries are how the team should forever be remembered. The HSV lion and helmet iconography became the HRT trademark for so long so it was fitting that Brock drove for the team from '94 to '97. His final season look almost made this list, but it's the '95 look that is clearly the stand-out from these years with the factory Holden squad.
2. 1972 HDT Holden Torana XU-1 GTR

This is a great example of a livery that perfectly suits the car. The ‘72 Holden Dealer Team enjoyed strong support from Holden, Castrol, Levis and TAA but despite squeezing all that signage onto the car it doesn’t look cluttered.
Instead, the red and black on top of white paint scheme flows over the LJ Torana XU-1 GTR body, taking advantage of its stylish lines to create a memorable look.
1. 1984 HDT Holden Commodore VK

As we wrote earlier, throughout its time in racing Marlboro was responsible for creating memorable liveries for some of the biggest names in the sport. Aytron Senna, Alain Prost, Emerson Fittipaldi, Rick Mears and so many more.
But without question one of the all-time best looking race cars is the VK Commodores HDT entered in the 1984 James Hardie 1000.
Dubbed the 'Last of the Big Bangers' this one-off day-glo look is a masterpiece in livery design - simple but unforgettable.
It doesn't hurt that it was successful either, with Brock and Larry Perkins taking a dominant win at Mt Panorama, leading home John Harvey and David Parsons in an HDT one-two finish.
There are obviously other great liveries from Brocky’s career that we haven’t featured here. So let us know if we’ve got it right or missed your favourite. Join the conversation at Australian Muscle Car on Facebook and Instagram.
