After hitting its straps in the 1960s with the creations of the Holden Monaro, Ford Falcon GT and Chrysler Pacer, the Australian car industry put the pedal to the floor as the 1970s began.
Riding high on a growing population looking for fun, fast and affordable cars, and encouraged by the Series Production rules for the popular Bathurst 500 (then 1000), the decade between 1970 and ‘79 saw some of the greatest muscle cars this country ever produced.
Narrowing it to just five was a challenge and then picking an order was no easy task, but we managed it. One thing is for sure, with only one car able to take top spot, someone will be unhappy.
