Bob Forbes notched up a baker’s dozen of starts in the Bathurst classic as a driver between 1969 and 1981, as we outlined last issue when the Sydneysider regaled us with recollections of his time in the privateer ranks.
Forbes’ best results came in Toranas and, tellingly, in wet races. This included leading the legendary 1974 Hardie-Ferodo 1000, ultimately finishing runner-up that day.
He may not have been a topline star, but he was Kevin Bartlett‘s co-driver of choice when the openwheeler star switched to touring cars with the Chev Camaro. That’s a substantial seal of approval for any driver and a good indication of the position Forbes occupies in the history of Australian tin-top racing.
