The ’79 Bathurst 1000 was a pretty significant event for Garry Rogers. It was the last car of his own that he raced at Bathurst until the ill-fated Commodore VL effort in 1988 with John Andretti. The next Garry Rogers-owned car to contest the Great Race after that was the Steven and Jim Richards Commodore VR, in the first appearance at Mount Panorama of what we'd soon know as Garry Rogers Motorsport, or simply GRM.

But GRM was a long way into the future in 1979. Back then, car dealer Rogers was only in his second season of touring car racing – although he had come into Group C with a wealth of racing experience in Sports Sedans dating back to the mid ’60s.

“I just raced whatever I could, whenever I could,” Rogers says.
