The fact that it was Peter Brock’s personal road car alone makes it special. But what makes this Commodore SS particularly unique is that it is also one of the handful of the ‘Brock Enhanced’ series of hot Holdens which Brock had planned to produce in 2005.
This month, this rare and truly unique Brock Commodore will go under the hammer at Slattery Auctions.
‘Brock Enhanced’ was an innovative programme in 2005 where VY/VZ Commodore and Monaro owners could have Brock’s team fit their car with a performance package specified by Brock himself – with the work being undertaken at Brock’s Hurstbridge residence. Reminiscent of the old Brock HDT, the kits were to be offered in levels of performance: Groups 1, 2 and 3.
However, General Motors-Holden put the kybosh on the programme just days after Brock publicly launched the Brock Enhanced range at the showroom of a Melbourne Holden dealer in 2005 (pictured below).

Holden saw the Brock Enhanced programme as being in direct opposition to HSV, and told Brock that he was in breach of his promotional contract with Holden. Consequently, Brock Enhanced was immediately shut down.
As our extensive history of Brock Enhanced in AMC #124 explains, Holden allowed for the completion of the five brock Enhanced cars for which deposits had already been taken to proceed.
In addition to the green VY SS, there were two SS Utes, a VZ Commodore SV8 and a Series II Monaro CV8.
The green VY had been James Brock’s personal transport, but was later ‘commandeered’ by his father, who gave it the Brock Enhanced Group 3 treatment. Peter Brock jokingly referred to his daily drive as the ‘Green Meanie’.

Slattery Auctions says the car will go under the hammer with no reserve price, which should make for an interesting round of bidding for what is a truly unique ‘Brock Commodore’. It might not enjoy the pedigree of an ‘80s HDT Brock Special Vehicle, but in some ways it’s a more authentic Brock car than any of the earlier models – because the performance mods Brock selected were based directly on his experience in road registered Monaros in events such as the Targa Tasmania.
And not forgetting also that this car was Peter Brock’s daily drive.
