One of the 1970s' most memorable Australian muscle cars has been rescued from a South Australian barn after 34 years in storage. The 1975 Ford XB Falcon John Goss Special was recently found and purchased by Adelaide-based dealer, The Muscle Car Shop, and is currently awaiting auction.

The car was bought by the previous owner in the 1980s for his son but after a family tragedy it was locked away to gather dust since 1988. The Muscle Car Shop was able to secure the car and will sell it ‘as is’ in the near-future.

For those interested in it as a restoration project, there have been some minor modifications made to the car, but it will be sold with all original parts.

This particular example is finished in Polar White with green and orange bonnet and highlights (blue was also available as an option).

The car will be sold in the same condition it came out of the barn after more than 30 years.

Ford created the John Goss Special to celebrate his 1974 Bathurst win but also to help improve the image and sales of the XB Falcon coupe. It was sold as a Falcon 500 with the 302 option, the ‘Cleveland’ V8 making 240hp (179kW).

Other special additions for the John Goss Special, aside from the unique paint scheme, was a  sports console, sports suspension, steel-belted radials and GS Rally pack, which included the GT’s dash, steering wheel and bonnet pins. Inside the seats and doors were trimmed in white vinyl with black carpet.

Restored examples of these rare Fords have been valued at as much as $250,000, but given its condition it’s unlikely this barn find example will go for that money. Even so, for any true XB Falcon fan this is a rare and special find that will be highly sought after.
