Here’s Mike Preston on the cover of his 1968 album ‘Something Old, Something New’. Monaros really were new back then, so we guess the reference to something old must have been the Austin - or you know who.

Mike Preston is best remembered for playing Detective Bob Delaney on the classic Aussie TV cop show ‘Homicide’ but he was also a pretty successful singer in the style of Engelbert Humperdinck. Recording for Clyde Packer’s Spin label, his version of ‘Dear Heart’ was a big hit in Melbourne.

This info comes from Bill Casey’s new book Spin Dried, a history of Spin Records published by Moonlight Publications (PO Box 234, Castlemaine, Vic).
