Customers walking into a Holden dealership in 1971 were able to give their new HQ Kingswood their own personal style.

As this original brochure shows, there were 45 Holden-approved accessories, ranging from a cigarette lighter to a water bag carrier.
Venetian blinds, sun shades, driver’s window weather shields and mud flaps were among the most popular. Some owners added so many extras it was hard to identify what car it was underneath.
At a time when radios were not fitted as standard, most wanted one of those new stereo-cassette players. A retractable aerial was also available.

Worth noting is that Monaro GTS mag wheels and high-performance tyres were also available as options to Belmont and Kingswood buyers.
Things we take for granted these days, like head restraints, a clock, petrol-locking caps and left-side mirrors, were still optional in 1971.
Some of the other accessories are long-forgotten novelties these days – like a chromed hood ornament, a set of four suitcases specially designed for the boot space, headlamp guards, an extra high note horn and a vanity mirror attached beneath the passenger visor.
