By the time Johnny O’Keefe released his Johnny B. Goode album in 1974 he was no longer Australia’s King of Rock & Roll and was earning a living on the RSL nostalgia circuit. But the Wild One still liked to travel in style. He had a thing for Pontiac Firebirds, buying his first one in 1968 after seeing it at the Brisbane Motor Show.
Unfortunately his driving skills had deteriorated since his infamous 1960 crash and the Firebird spent most of its time at Jumbo Jim’s panel beaters. This silver Firebird 400, noted for its twin airscoops, was the current model and we can only hope it had a better life. Note the JOK badge just above the rear fender.
