Shane van Gisbergen’s lead-up to the 2022 Bathurst 1000 was unlike any of his rivals - he finished third in the WRC2 class at Rally New Zealand. It was a deeply impressive performance from the Kiwi ace, to transfer his performance on tarmac to gravel and hold his own with some of the best rally drivers in the world.

The WRC podium and Bathurst win strengthened van Gisbergen’s claim to the unofficial title of the best ‘all-rounder’ in Australian motorsport in modern times. But he’s not alone, because while many European professional drivers prefer to specialise these days, Australian and Kiwi drivers have a habit of trying their hand at multiple cars when they get the chance.

Tickford Racing’s Cameron Waters has spent his recent summers racing Sprint Cars and Erebus Motorsport rising star Brodie Kostecki is investigating a NASCAR start in 2023.
